POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Research and Evaluation and Biorepository Director, the Research Biorepository Specialist will perform functions and activities involved in both the technical and programmatic roles of biobanking samples as well as assisting in conducting research designed to better understand and improve care for patients with spinal cord injuries and brain injuries.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Licensure/Certification/Registrations: None.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in cellular or molecular biology or related scientific field.
- Experience: 1 year of experience in a wet laboratory; phlebotomy experience preferred.
- Skills & Abilities: Excellent organization and customer service skills. General understanding of scientific principles. Demonstrated ability to apply theoretical knowledge of science principals to problem-solving work. Ability to successfully handle multiple priorities and prioritize and schedule accordingly while meeting established deadlines. Must be able to successfully and effectively communicate with a variety of personnel. Advanced team-building, conflict resolution, and communication skills, both verbal and written, are required. Work collaboratively with other departments and physicians. Able to maintain a high degree of accuracy, dependability and strong attention to detail, both mechanically and technically. Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the position. Possess above-average problem-solving skills, judgment and flexibility. Strong computer skills with Microsoft applications. Ability to input, access and organize data and sufficient overall understanding and knowledge of computer hardware and software necessary to successfully complete research and training projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Perform sample procurement, processing, storage, retrieval, and shipment under the supervision of directors.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for sample procurement, processing, storage, retrieval, and shipment under the supervision of directors.
- Develop and maintain sample databases with quality control and de-identification standards meeting the Human Subjects Research Standards of the institutional review board.
- Assist in planning approaches to experiments in support of research projects in the lab and/or field based on knowledge of scientific theory.
- Provide feedback and collaborate with research teams regarding modifications to procedures and protocols in collaboration with senior researchers.
- Review literature and attend scientific conferences to advance the scientific knowledge base to support all research activities.
- Participate in the preparation of written documents, including policies and procedures, regulatory requirements, presentations, proposals, and publications.
- Perform general lab maintenance as needed; maintain lab stock, manage inventory and safety records, and provide general lab support as needed.
- Implement assigned research tasks and interpret study protocols as needed with supervision from more senior research staff.
- Abstract medical records and collect research data. Assume responsibility for coding, data entry, and correction of data in computer database systems.
- Complete data collection from study participants per protocol.
- Provide reports summarizing study status upon request of study team and/or research leadership.
- Identify research barriers or identify research study barriers/challenges and collaborate with a study team to resolve them.
- Effectively communicate research study progress.

Rate of pay: $27.56/ Hour -$39.68/ Hour
