The Assistant SUD Counselor supports individuals in recovery from substance use disorders by providing counseling services and promoting long-term recovery. Under the supervision of a licensed counselor, the Assistant SUD Counselor will facilitate individual, group, and family counseling sessions using evidence-based practices. This role requires a collaborative and client-centered approach to ensure high-quality care.
Essential Job Functions:
- Conduct confidential, gender-responsive, and trauma-informed assessments using ASAM criteria to determine the appropriate level of care.
- Utilize a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach while working with clients and the internal and external Hygea Healthcare treatment team.
- Assist in conducting individual, group, and family counseling sessions to support clients in their recovery journey.
- Support clients in meeting their treatment plan goals, ensuring ongoing updates and individualized care.
- Utilize evidence-based interventions to address clients' clinical needs and reduce the risk of relapse.
- Monitor treatment progress and collaborate with the treatment team to address any barriers to recovery.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in accordance with agency requirements to support billing and regulatory compliance.
- Participate in agency and community meetings, workshops, and educational presentations to promote substance use awareness and prevention.
Education & Experience Requirements:
- Minimum: High School Diploma or equivalent. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field preferred.
- Credential Requirement: Must hold an Alcohol & Drug Trainee (ADT) certification in the state of Maryland.
- Previous experience in a substance use disorder or behavioral health setting is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in computer applications; experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) is a plus.
- Ability to work independently while supporting the agency's mission and values.
- Commitment to cultural competency, trauma-informed care, and client-centered services.
