About the role
The Yard Worker is responsible for maintaining an organized, clean, and efficient yard while ensuring accurate tracking and handling of all materials. This role supports daily operations by working closely with the service manager and crews to coordinate material staging and loading, conduct routine cycle counts, and ensure accurate processing of returned items. You will also assist with the overall planning, storage, control, levels, and flow of materials and products to support operational needs. Additional responsibilities include overseeing the loading and unloading of trucks, trailers, and barges, supporting inventory management across departments, and maintaining accurate equipment tagging. A strong emphasis is placed on continuous improvement and optimizing material handling processes.
What you"ll do
- Organizes, monitors, and maintains the yard. Keeps it free of debris and trash.
- Responsible for materials and where it is located.
- Ensure the material is accounted for with accurate quantities. (Raw, finished, in-process.)
- Perform cycle counts as needed.
- Ensure crews are loaded for the day.
- Works with production staff daily to determine material needed to be staged for production.
- Responsible for the loading and unloading of trucks, trailers, and barges.
- Account for any returns and put them in the proper location.
- Assists other areas and staff in inventory tracking.
- Constantly improve the process and eliminate non-value-add activities.
- Ensure used lifts are accounted for and accurately tagged.
- Assist other departments as needed
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Valid Driver's License (required)
- Experience in transportation load planning and yard management.
- Experience in inventory accuracy methods
- Ability to operate forklifts, skid steers, boom lifts, and other heavy machinery
- Welding and mechanic experience (preferred)
- Ability to maneuver equipment around the yard required

Working Conditions and Physical Efforts
- Work involves walking, talking, hearing, lifting, pushing, pulling, and/or carrying up to 100 pounds occasionally in addition to using material-handling equipment.
- May be required to stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Vision abilities require close vision assessments. Moderately loud noise levels in the work environment.
- Ability to perform labor-intensive tasks repeatedly and stand for long periods.
- Steel-toe boots are required.
