The Radiation Therapist is responsible for accurately administering radiation therapy to patients as prescribed by the Radiation Oncologist. Assists as a liaison between patient physician and nursing staff. Explains treatment procedures to patients and their family members when asked. Reinforces recommendations and instructions to the patient concerning reaction to treatment and care of radiation area. Other duties as assigned.
Education: Graduate of an accredited school of Radiation Therapy required. Certification with American Registry of Radiologic Technologist in Radiation Therapy Technology (ARRT) required upon hire or within six months of employment.
Experience: Two years working experience in Radiation Therapy Preferred. Knowledge in Radiation Oncology, the principles governing radiation safety, use, and application of radiation to the healing arts. Ability to operate all equipment in the department necessary in providing patient treatments, able to handle incapacitated and difficult patients, and remain calm in a crisis situation.
