WinnCompanies is looking for a Janitor to join our team at Patrick Sullivan Apartments, a 479-unit senior/RAD public housing communitylocated in Chicago, IL.
In this role, you will perform maintenance and cleaning functions in the community, including rental units, residential common areas, office, grounds and parking lots.
Please note that this is a union position and will eligible for benefits provided by the union. Additionally, the pay rate for this position is $26.23 per hour.
The selected candidate will adhere to the following work schedule: Sunday through Thursday, from 8:00AM to 5:00PM, with regular on-call activity every 3 weeks.
Responsibilities
- Prioritize the maintenance and cleaning responsibilities of all areas of the property, including the common areas, vacant apartments, offices, and outdoor grounds and parking lot.
- Perform repairs in such areas as, but not limited to: appliances, carpentry, hardware accessories, masonry, painting, basic electrical, basic plumbing, and basic HVAC.
- Complete assigned service requests and repairs consistent with company operating procedures.
- Assist in preparing vacant apartments are prepared for occupancy and market ready status in accordance to company standards.
- Maintain grounds and curb appeal through landscaping, and trash management activities.
- Be available for on-call activity during off-hours and emergencies based on a pre-determined schedule and need.
- Sweep, remove debris, clean spills, scrub, mop, and vacuum as required throughout the common areas of the building (stairwells, laundry room, lounge, community room, hallways, etc.) and in vacant apartments as part of the turnover process.
- Strip and wax floors periodically. May steam-clean and/or shampoo carpets.
- Check the trash receptacles (and empty as needed) in all areas of the site, complying with municipal recycling guidelines as required.
- Service, clean, and supply restrooms in offices and common areas.
- Clean all laundry rooms, including laundry room appliances.
- Dust furniture, walls, and equipment in the building, including community rooms/areas.
- Replace light bulbs throughout the building.
- Remove weeds. Plant bushes, trees, flowers, and shrubs. Maintain landscape.
- Remove snow from sidewalks and spread snow melting supplies as needed.
- Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding to prepare facilities for events.
- Assist Maintenance Mechanic as needed and approved or assigned by the Property Manager and/or Executive Director.
- Keep janitorial supplies in stock and cleaning equipment in working order.
Requirements
- Less than 1 year of relevant work experience.
- A current driver's license in good standing and ability to meet the driving records standards outlined in the Company Safe Vehicular Operations Policy.
- General knowledge of electrical, plumbing, appliances, HVAC, and carpentry.
- Basic familiarity with computers and tablets.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to respond to requests in a timely and respectful manner.
- Availability for on-call activity during off-hours for urgent needs.
- Ability to speak and understand basic English.
- Ability to carry and maintain all maintenance and cleaning supplies necessary for routine functions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational or technical training.
- CAMT certification.
- Prior cleaning experience.
- Prior stripping and waxing experience.
