Job Description:
Job Title: Building Maintenance Worker
Status: Non-Exempt, Full-time, 12 month schedule, 1.0 FTE
Reports To: Structural Supervisor
Overview: The Structural Maintenance Carpenter is responsible for maintaining campus academic buildings and residences. This includes designing, building, installing and repairing structures, fixtures, furniture, and other items using materials common to the trade.
Primary Duties:
- Assist with aspects of maintaining building interiors and exteriors
- Responsible for miscellaneous repairs: Installing and repairing walls, doors, closures, flooring, ceilings, partitions, draperies etc.
- Measure, cut or shape wood, plastic, fiberglass, drywall and other materials
- Construct building frameworks, including wall studs, floor joists and door frames
- Inspect and replace damaged framework and other structures and fixtures
- Replace glass and perform all types of window and window systems repair
- Able to make effective repairs to roofs (build-ups, rubber, shingles, etc.), plus ability to setup and work from ladder, scaffolding, picks, high roofs, and overhangs.
- Construct shelving, bookcases, and cabinets and repair all types of furniture as needed
Additional Duties:
- Perform minor electrical and plumbing repairs
- Assist other departments with Facilities Services as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Skills & Experience:
- 1-3 years of work related experience in all phases of carpentry
- Knowledge of carpentry, building maintenance and code
- Knowledge of safe operation of basic hand and power tools
- Ability to read and interpret building specifications, blueprints and as-builds
- Must possess a valid driver's license
Requirements:
Education: High School Diploma or GED required.
Supervisory Responsibility: This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for student workers.
Work Environment:
- Work assignments may require working indoors and outdoors in all seasons and weather conditions
- Evening, weekend and on-call work may be required occasionally, especially during extreme weather events or campus emergencies
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds on a frequent basis and 75 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Must be able to push and pull heavy machinery on a frequent basis.
- This position requires frequent climbing of stairs and occasional work on ladders.
- Ability to listen, hear, speak, read, write, bend, stoop, and stand for long periods of time.
- Must possess finger and hand dexterity for using small tools and equipment.
Expected hours of work:
Academic Year: 40 hours per week
Summer: 40 hours per week
This is a Full-time position with a 40 hour work week. Standard days and hours of work are Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. Hours may vary during break periods such as Summer Break and Spring Break. On occasion employees are expected to report for emergency response situations and subject to supervisor approval, overtime may be required.

Pay and Benefits:
This position is budgeted to pay between $17.50 to $20.00 per hour based upon past working experience.
