Townsen Memorial is hiring for a full-time Operating Room Technician at our West, Bellaire TX location!
SUMMARY:
The Operating Room Technician is responsible for supporting the surgical team by preparing and maintaining the operating room environment. This includes assisting with patient transport and positioning, room setup and turnover, stocking supplies, and ensuring a clean, safe, and efficient space for surgical procedures. Working under the supervision of licensed nursing and surgical staff, the OR Technician plays a vital role in promoting patient safety, workflow efficiency, and a collaborative team environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Transport patients safely to and from the operating room, pre-op, and recovery areas
• Assist with patient positioning and prepping under the direction of licensed staff
• Perform operating room turnover between cases, including cleaning and disinfecting surfaces and equipment
• Handle soiled linens, waste, and sharps disposal according to hospital protocols
• Ensure all OR suites are fully stocked with supplies and non-sterile equipment
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas, hallways, and support spaces
• Assist staff with non-clinical tasks during procedures, staying clear of the sterile field
• Communicate effectively with the surgical team to support timely safe procedures
• Uphold all infection prevention and safety policies, including PPE use and hygiene standards
• Support other team members in urgent or emergent situations as needed
• Perform other related tasks as needed
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
• Basic understanding of medical terminology and patient care procedures • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with patients, clinical staff and teammates
• Ability to safely operate patient transport equipment (stretchers, beds, wheelchairs)
• Effective time management and organizational skills in a fast-paced setting
• Awareness of sterile vs. non-sterile technique and OR environment expectations
• Basic computer and EMR navigation skills
• Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and a patient-centered attitude
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• High School Diploma or GED
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certified
