Position Purpose:
Serves as liaison between referral sources, insurance companies, outreach coordinators, and hospital staff
regarding financial and medical issues to facilitate referral process. Facilitates the efficient flow of patients
through the admission process interacting with the physicians, nursing, therapy, and ancillary departments.
Verifies insurance information and obtains all required approval signatures. Monitors, directs and responds to
referral sources in a timely manner. Displays excellent customer service skills when interacting with internal and
external customers.
Key Job Activities:
ï‚· Monitors Activeware and Allscripts throughout the day for new referrals. Contacts Outreach coordinator
of available referral to facilitate timely response to referral Source.
ï‚· Assists in the collection of all patient financial and demographic information prior to patient admission
and enters into Meditech.
ï‚· Creates file with patient’s demographics and referral information.
ï‚· Ensures financial clearance for admission through insurance companies, Activeware, and SHS’s MANG
department.
ï‚· Works in conjunction with SHS managed Care Department on single case agreements.
ï‚· Completes felony and sexual predator checks on each referral. Completes Meditech Soundex check on
each referral to ensure continuity of care.
ï‚· Ensures that all subacute patients have a 3-day hospital qualifying stay prior to admission.
ï‚· Ensures all dialysis patients are cleared by nephrology prior to admission and a discharge site has been
confirmed.
ï‚· Confirms that methadone patients have discharge sites in place before admission.
ï‚· Coordinates overall admission process which includes management of the bed board on a daily basis.
Communicates effectively with interdisciplinary departments daily about census and bed placement.
ï‚· Enters patient information in Meditech admissions module prior to the arrival of the patient on the day of
admission. Updates information as soon as possible when new data becomes available.
ï‚· Ensures admission list in Meditech is accurate. Distributes list hourly throughout the day to all appropriate
departments via Meditech distribution list. Weekend lists are sent out on Friday afternoon.
ï‚· Admits patient into Meditech system upon arrival to facility.

ï‚· Ensures that admission documents are signed and completed by the patient or designee at the time of
admission. Demographic and insurance information is verified and changes made in the Meditech
system as soon as possible. All paperwork is scanned into Meditech.
ï‚· Processes all discharges in Meditech and breaks down the physical file. Admission documents are filed
and kept for one year for reference.
ï‚· Responds to all phone calls in the Admitting office in a professional and customer focused manner.
Refers all inquiries to appropriate personnel with goal of facilitating admission process.
ï‚· Participates in professional development activities to keep abreast of current trends and practices in
admitting and billing.
ï‚· Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Work Experience:
ï‚· Bachelors preferred
ï‚· 2-3 years of previous admitting or registration experience required
Knowledge and Skills:
ï‚· Proficient in using computer application software such as MS Excel and Word; Meditech; and various other
office-related applications.
ï‚· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
ï‚· Must be able to interact with a diverse client base including patients and their family members; medical
center staff; and external parties as required.
ï‚· High level of organizational and attention to detail skills.
ï‚· Ability to follow-through and ensure tasks are brought to successful completion
ï‚· Experience in EPIC and MEDITECH software systems preferred.

Sinai’s benefit programs with the exception for City of Chicago Paid Leave and Paid Sick Leave (Sick-C), PPO
Medical Plan, Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and non-match eligible contribution to the Sinai Health
System Consolidated 403(b) retirement savings plan.
