Overview
PSV is seeking an experienced PreOP/PACU Registered Nurse to support our Outpatient Ambulatory Surgery Center. This role will be working 24 hours a week/3 days. It is a part time position.
PSV RN’s provide knowledgeable and caring clinical practice and care coordination through an understanding of patient, family, nurse and healthcare delivery team.
Job Description
The PreOp/ PACU RN’s duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Assess, instruct and prepare patients prior to surgery
- Ensure that surgical and informed consents are signed and correct
- Take and record vital statistics of patients to ensure readiness for surgical procedure
- Initiate IVs and ensure patients are informed about procedure if needed or directed by anesthesiologist
- Assess patients’ post-operative condition
- Monitor vital signs and other measurements of progress, meeting discharge criteria
- Document patient condition in EMR
- Answer patient/ family questions and ensure patient comfort
- Monitor patients for condition changes, reporting any changes to physician
- Perform intervention duties during post-operative emergencies
- Monitor patient vital signs as they wake from anesthesia and throughout PACU course
- Treat pain, nausea, and other patient post-op symptoms and any side effects of anesthesia
- Comfort patients who awaken scared or confused after surgery
- Document and keep the team informed of the patient’s progress
- Educate the patient and family on post-surgery care, discharge instructions and follow-up care
- Additional duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications Required
- Registered Nurse currently licensed in Virginia
- Graduated from an approved school of nursing
- Three (3) years ER, PACU, PICU, and/or NICU experience
- Current CPR certification
- All employees must pass an employment TB, drug and physical exam
