We're seeking an Investment Accounting Manager with experience in Insurance, Reinsurance, or Financial Services. This role partners with Financial Reporting, Investments, Audit, Operations, and leads technical accounting research and resolution. The ideal candidate will oversee investment portfolio accounting and reporting, including the monthly close. Experience in complex investments—private fixed income, commercial mortgage loans, alternatives, limited partnerships, equities, and consolidation accounting—is required.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitor changes in investment accounting standards and ensure compliance with GAAP, US STAT, and other regulatory requirements.
- Work directly with the Controller and Director of Investment Accounting to analyze and document accounting conclusions for complex investments including consolidation and VIE analysis.
- Oversee feed from Clearwater to SAP S4 HANA general ledger and associated reconciliation.
- Manage accurate and timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end accounting and financial reporting close activities related to investments, including analysis of investment accounting results.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external auditors to support audit processes and financial reporting.
- Lead and develop a team of investment accounting professionals; provide guidance and mentorship.
- Implement process improvements and automation initiatives to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- Collaborate with investment management, investment operations, and actuarial teams to support strategic initiatives and investment decisions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
- Minimum 8 years of progressive accounting experience, with significant exposure to investment accounting.
- Demonstrated experience with general ledger systems and investment accounting platforms.
- Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with data analytics tools a plus.
- Prior experience in Insurance, Reinsurance, or Financial Services.
- Experience managing or mentoring a team.
- Experience with Clearwater Application.
- Accounting for Private Investments.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient in managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines.
- High ethical standards and integrity.
- Attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position will directly supervise two investment accountants. Responsibilities include assigning and reviewing work, providing coaching and performance feedback, supporting professional development, and ensuring alignment with departmental goals and deadlines. The Investment Accounting Manager will also be responsible for fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
