About the role
DroneShield is on the lookout for a Human Systems Engineer to join our rapidly expanding Systems Engineering team in Sydney. Working in an innovative and fast-paced team across multiple projects/products, this role offers an exceptional opportunity for a results-driven human systems engineer to make a significant impact in a rapidly growing, and niche market.
This role will see you contribute directly to and oversee the development and implementation of a Human Systems Integration (HSI) program within the company. You will work across our portfolio of products and projects (current and future) ensuring systems are designed with the end-user in mind, optimising human interactions, safety and useability across a range of complex human-machine systems. You will conduct these activities as well as provide leadership and oversight to other systems engineers to champion human-centred design and integration across the systems engineering lifecycle.

Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations
- Develop and apply human factors engineering principles to enable optimised user experiences and system performance.
- Collaborate with system architects, software engineers, and product designers to integrate human-centered design principles across the entire systems engineering lifecycle.
- Support the development of HSI-related requirements including manpower optimisation, personnel needs, training requirements, safety and occupational health, force protection and habitability requirements.
- Support the development of HSI-related design documentation, test procedures, and reports.
- Ensure compliance with relevant HSI standards for both commercial and defence environments.
- Prepare technical documentation including human engineering plans, user manuals, training materials, and test reports.
- Provide oversight of and participate in HSI related design reviews, risk assessments, and verification/validation activities.
- Engage with stakeholders including end-users and clients to capture and refine HSI-related requirements.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills

Desirable
- Experience with Australian Defence or similar contracting frameworks, specifically human engineering contract requirements
- Familiarity with tools such as JAMA/DOORs, Cameo, Jira, Confluence
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) in a relevant area of practice
- Must be able to obtain an Australian Security Clearance (Baseline or NV1 is ideal).
