Beehive Industries is dedicated to Powering American Defense by revolutionizing the design, development, and delivery of jet propulsion systems to support the warfighter. Through the integration of additive manufacturing, the company aims to meet the growing and urgent needs for unmanned aerial defense by dramatically improving a jet engine's speed to market, fuel efficiency, and cost.
Founded in 2020, the company is headquartered in Englewood, Colorado, with additional facilities in Knoxville, Tennessee, Loveland Ohio, and Mount Vernon, Ohio. Beehive is committed to grow and advance the defense industrial base while manufacturing exclusively in the USA. This role can be located at our Englewood, Colorado, Loveland, Ohio or Knoxville, Tennessee facility.
Role Overview:
Beehive Industries is seeking a Senior Counsel with the range to cover the full spectrum of United States government contract issues. This includes providing legal advice on proposals, procurements, and contracts; advising Beehive's other business and functional areas; and developing legal strategies and implementing them. The Legal & Compliance Team partners closely with customers, outside counsel, and business partners across the organization to support the company's objectives and operations.
Because Beehive is an early-stage, fast-growing company, members of Beehive's Legal & Compliance Team must be resourceful, creative, and eager to take ownership of complex matters. Reporting directly to the General Counsel, the Senior Counsel role will use these traits to navigate the US government's complex procurement and compliance rules, while dynamically helping Beehive achieve its mission of Powering American Defense. In addition to helping capture and execute new government deals, you will support all other aspects of Beehive's operations, from negotiating technology and supply chain agreements, to handling legal disputes and bid protests, to managing intellectual property and data rights, compliance, and employment matters. While experience in all of these areas is not required, a willingness to learn and adapt is.
Responsibilities:
- Use your expertise in federal procurement law to help the Business Development and Engineering teams efficiently capture new contracts, grow existing ones, and set up follow-on opportunities for future business.
- Work on all legal aspects of Beehive's legal work, from negotiating agreements, to handling disputes, to managing intellectual property, compliance, and employment matters. Beehive expects its attorneys to contribute in all areas where they have (or can develop) skills.
- Assist in strategy development for capturing US government business as well as avenues for sales to foreign allied customers.
- Provide legal counsel on the entire acquisition lifecycle.
- Counsel on and evaluate major proposals, monitor large contracts, and lead or assist in key negotiations.
- Be a key contributor to Beehive's small, dynamic Legal & Compliance Team.
- Take responsibility for significant, material projects, which will contribute directly to the company's objectives.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 5-12 years of post-law school legal experience and at least 3 years of work on US government contracts matters, preferably at a law firm or an in-house role
- A strong knowledge of the US government procurement process, spanning the range of contract types
- The management skills and initiative required to own multiple projects from beginning-to-end, whether through supporting the lifecycle of a deal or handling unexpected legal issues that may arise
- Outstanding, executive-level communication (both written and verbal), interpersonal, and presentation skills
- Demonstrated attention to detail, time management, organizational skills, and keen business judgement, with a dedicated focus on personal ethics, integrity, and accountability
- A quick learner who contributes to the broader start-up legal function, including on topics that may be completely new to you, such as IP/data rights, litigation, financing, securities, compliance, and employment law
- Law degree (JD) required, and admission (or ability to register as in-house counsel) to practice law where located
Preferred Qualifications:
- Combination of law-firm and in-house legal experience in corporations, government, or the military
- Experience with aerospace/defense, engineering, software, or other technologies
- Experience working with the government while in private practice
- A demonstrated interest in the law and policy of defense acquisitions and opinions on what works work well and where there are opportunities for improvement
The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. Citizenship is required, as only U.S. Citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
