This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Sydney CBD. There are approximately 320 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 400 staff by end of 2025. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Denmark, Germany and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally.
About the role
The company is seeking a Senior Algorithm Engineer with relevant experience to join the development team in Sydney. The role is primarily focused on the development of DroneShield's RfAI projects. It represents an exceptional opportunity for a result-driven individual in a new niche but exploding market.
Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations
- Research and develop algorithms and mathematical models to be deployed on edge computing platforms
- Work closely with other software engineers to Integrate and optimize algorithmic models to run efficiently into production software architectures
- Assist the software development team to implement models and have input into how the output from this data is displayed to the user (GUI)
- Manage multi-domain data sets, data preparation and labelling
- Document and maintain the code base supporting Sensor Fusion / Machine Learning applications
- Assist the software/hardware development teams to make informed decisions about the future direction of complex deployed system design.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills
- BS degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or similar technical field of study or equivalent practical experience
- Ability to research, design and integrate complex algorithms and mathematical models into high-performance software, operating on sensor data
- Experience with signal processing techniques, time-series analysis and sensor fusion
- Experience with RF signal analysis is highly favourable
- Strong ability in probability and statistics is highly favourable
- ML/AI experience is favourable but not essential
- Familiarity with heterogeneous computing principles and CUDA programming is favourable
- Ability to translate business logic and objectives into briefs, executing on those ideas by generating well-functioning analytical models
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, communicating effectively with engineers from non-software / data science backgrounds.
