Job Description
The House Director is responsible for the overall operation of the Chapter House. This includes, but is not limited to, the day-to-day maintenance, cleanliness, food service, and health and safety of every member and guest of the Chapter House. The House Director consults with SAE F&H or the local house corporation for guidance and assistance in executing their duties.
Essential Functions
General
- Resides in the Chapter House 7 days per week, 365 days per year. Is available on weekends and evenings in case of emergency and notifies SAE F&H or the local house corporation in the event this is not possible. All absences or vacations must be coordinated and approved by SAE F&H or the local house corporation.
- Participates in facilitation of employee evaluations, including food service, cleaning, and maintenance staff.
- Confirms Chapter House residents, including their name, room number, cell phone number, and email to SAE F&H or the local house corporation by the end of the first week of classes during each semester/quarter.
- Maintains open communication with the undergraduate Chapter and its officers by conducting regular meetings at mutually agreeable times.
Chapter House Condition
- Conducts a daily walkthrough of the Chapter House utilizing the daily inspection report.
- Reports immediately any major physical or structural problems of the Chapter House to SAE F&H or the local house corporation.
- Prepares property inspection reports in a timely manner on the physical condition of the Chapter House, including, but not limited to, health and safety inspections, inventory or asset tracking inspections, and other reports as requested.
- Ensures the Chapter House’s cleanliness while maintaining a hospitable environment. Supervises cleaning staff and works with the Chapter’s House Manager, or his designee, to ensure the cleanliness of the Chapter House.
- Conducts room inspections, including upon member’s checking-in and out from the Chapter House, as well as periodic room inspections at a frequency designated by SAE F&H or the local house corporation, utilizing the prepared room inspection report.
- Schedules, supervises, and reviews the work of any outside contractors or vendors.
- Closes and secures the Chapter House after members leave the college/university for designated breaks.
Health & Safety
- Ensures a safe and productive Chapter House environment for all members, guests, and staff.
- Reports immediately any issues or incidents involving the Chapter House’s members or guests, observed or experienced, to SAE F&H or the local house corporation, as well as any other relevant persons, utilizing the prepared incident report.
- Educates oneself on the Health & Safety Policies of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, also referred to as Minerva’s Shield, other relevant rules of the Fraternity and college/university, and the rules contained within the Master Lease. In addition to these rules applying to our members and guests, these rules also apply to the House Director.

Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to effectively read, write, and speak the English language.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Physical mobility and dexterity to transport files, operate general office equipment (telephone, computer, printer/copier, etc.) and maneuver flights of stairs.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Proficient in Google Workspace products (Gmail, Meet, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides).
